User Survey: Do You Want a Koreatown Version of JERSEY SHORE?

Entertainer and entrepreneur Tyrese Gibson has confirmed that his production company has an Asian American version of MTV’s JERSEY SHORE in the works. A casting call went out on Craigslist LA with a location listed of “Los Angeles/Hollywood/Koreatown” (Read the ad here.)

We wonder what you think of this kind of Asian entertainment. We’ve created a new survey section so that we can get instant feedback from our users. You’ll see it over on the right hand side. Would you cross your fingers that “reality TV” comes to DramaFever, or does it make you cringe to think of a Korean American girl named Eunhee getting punched out and laying on the floor? (For those not familiar with this JERSEY SHORE incident, reference this.)

Reality TV? On DramaFever? JERSEY SHORE in Koreatown? Will it bring Asian entertainment two steps forward or two steps back in the American mainstream? Shuuuddddrrr....will they be called Samsoons and Samsiks instead of Guidos and Guidettes???? Will they all wear designer clothings and accessories and drive Beemers/Mercs/Audis???? Will they be filmed at Le Cercle (used to be Prive) doing the whole booking thing??? Soooo many questions and so many mind boggling inane scenarios...but yes I'd watch it just out of curiosity.

A k-town version of Jersey Shore sounds just as bad as doing a South Central version. Exactly how long would such an idea float around the media before the project would be killed due to public outrage at such a blatant attempt to magnify black profiling and negative imagery? Reality entertainment, whether it is about sating voyeuristic tendencies as for what family life looks like with 8 babies, or peeking into the "life" of italian-americans, is about pure exploitation. Nobody cares what happens to these people as long as it is interesting to watch. These shows' goals are not to be uplifting, but to be confrontational and conflict-driven. My guess is that they will find enough camera-ho's willing to engage in the worst ethnic-typecasting to get onto the show. This is patently offensive, and given Tyrese's movie history (2Fast 2Furious), I can guess that they'll fill the show with the stereotypical asian guys who soup up Acura Integras and Honda Civics, and the rich bitch girls who follow them around.

HELL NO. although jersey shore was a hit, many people now think all young italians are like that. its bad enough people already think asians to be either super-nerdy or super-"cool". with a show like this, those stereotypes will be "confirmed".

As an Italian from Brooklyn who hates that Jersey-shore guido-mentality (that does exsist) and the fact that many of the players in the mtv show were not Italian. They were just to playcate a negative stereotype... I'd I say no. I rather see the show Parodied with Asians acting like the Italian stereotype. If find this comical. In good sport and in good humor.

Hmm...I never watched Jersey Shore, however, hearing the backlash of it all from the Italian community I'm not so sure it will be well received by the Asian American (more specific Korean) community if it has that type of vulgarity & insulting behavior. Sure I'll watch out of curiosity but I don't think I will continue to watch it after like the 1st ep (if I can get through an ep).

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Don't let it happen ... One of the huge reasons I turned away from American television was the absolute junk and garbage that passes for "entertainment" on both network and cable tv. I watch Korean programming and through it have learned to love and respect the Korean culture and have made lifelong connections - I don't see how this type of programming can do anything positive. I don't want to see Korean/American "reality" TV - not only will it confirm untrue stereotypes, I doubt it can be any higher quality than "American" reality tv. There is enough garbage out there. Don't add to it.

I agree with hammycatt. One of the reasons I began watching Korean Dramas was because American television is not producing good shows. For the past few years everything has become reality tv. Personally, I am Italian American and find that shows like Jersey Shore continue be to an insult to me. I also come from a conservative family background--I couldn't watch something like Jersey Shore with my grandmother unlike Korean Dramas where I don't need to worry about sex and violence. For one thing if Dramafever decides to post garbage similar to Jersey Shore I would be really disappointed.

Tyrese is 1/4 chinese so hopefully, he'd portray it in good taste. but i think all ethnic groups hate those blatantly negative stereotype shows. they do nothing but show the bad in people. sadly, it will probably be a hit. people like to watch other people act stupid. it makes them feel better about themselves.

It will be exploitive and vulgar, no doubt. May be fun to watch unless they are your daughter, son, or other relative. I suspect for those unfortunates, will be very tough, indeed, if characters on this show are anything like what I have read about those on Jersey Shore (yes, you are right, I have never watched Jersey Shore but judging nonetheless). No good reason to put on Drama Fever; it will be available, I am sure, at plenty of other Web sites for those who like this trash.

Please don't copy the trash tv that is currently being shown on US television. Korean dramas are innocent and funny. It is a pleasure to learn about Korean culture. I do wonder how much is real tho.

Please stay away from reality programs. I live in the US and had to disconnect my Cable due to all the JUNK that is out there. I refuse to pay for garbage on TV. This is one of the reason I watch KDramas on my PC. They are clean, funny and entertaining without all the violence, cursing and sex.

Please god NO. I can't stand reality tv for the most part, unless it showcases talents or something positive, which most don't. I think this is a terrible idea. I don't watch any of those reality tv shows because they are just plain stupid. Sure there's probably some funny moments and whatnot, but overall it's just demeaning and idiotic.

I won't watch this. I don't watch this kind of TV either. It's trash and I do not care about the angst in other people's life, I have my own stuff to deal with. I just want to be entertained. Reality TV just stinks. If this is all you are going to offer, I'll be stopping my premium service.

I would love to see a positive show as Danni said. It makes me so sad to see the trashy shows that have become so popular these days.I remember when MTV and VH1 actually had Music on their networks instead of total crap.I love being able to watch Korean dramas without worrying about bad language and junk that all the other shows think everyone wants to see.Keep bringing us great fun and exciting shows to watch :) Thanks!

That's double edged sword. On one hand hopefully mainstream US will accept seeing Asians on their tv and realize people are people. Yeah, I'm reaching I know. On the other hand will they be made to look like fools thanks editing. Why he couldn't do a real show as opposed to reality is beyond me.

that is the most horrible idea ever.If they make it i'm not watching it, honestly that is one of the many reasons i stopped watching american tv it doesn't leave anything to the imagination I hope they stop it dead in its tracks like Lori said no trash pliz let Asia be pure and clean

It's not that I oppose it, but I don't support it either. Why bother? Like someone said, what it will do is feed off stereotypes about a group of people and give them a reason to misbehave on camera. Then again, I'll probably find myself watching it anyway for curiosity sake. I thought they decided to do a persian-version of Jersey Shore.

Why would Korea wanna copy such a tv show? Jersey Shore was a big hit...but it was all stereotyped...sorta...(with the whole Italian thing) Leave Asia as Asia Leave America as America I love all the k-dramas that we have right now! Just keep drama-fever as is...!

THAT SOUNDS DISGUSTING!!! I would be sooo upset if a Korean version of Jersey Shore came out. That so is trashy and disgusting and I would be offended if Koreans reduced themselves to such ridiculousness. Please, if you want reality shows stick to the AWESOMENESS of We Got Married and make more shows like that. I love Korean dramas, games shows, music shows, etc because they didn't conform and they made their own style. Korean tv is in a class on it's own and I do NOT want them to try to copy something as insignificant as Jersey Shore. Or even Real World, or any other stupid American reality show. They're boring, with nothing but sex, partying, and unnecessary drama... It's disgusting.
