Familiar Faces: Jun Kwang Ryul

Jun Kwang Ryul has been appearing in dramas since 1998 with Mt. Jiri (for those weak in math, that’s twelve years). With his thin, ascetic face, he can portray either sympathetic or cruel characters, but has been typecast in recent years as a morally ambiguous or ruthless father figure (roles which he played to perfection in King of Baking and Swallow the Sun).

Material Queen is a 20-episode romance that was originally set to star Jerry Yan, but he’s been replaced by fellow F4 alumn Vanness Wu. Wu reunites with the producer and director of last year’s hit Autumn’s Concerto, who are both also working on this drama.

The Korea Society, in New York City, will host a special screening of Lee Chang-dong’s masterful Poetry at the newly renovated Museum of the Moving Image. Poetry won the 2010 award for best screenplay at Cannes, a first for Korea.
