A Preference for Plastic Princes

You all know what I’m referring to right? I mean you’re not sitting there drooling over certain actors and Idols thinking they were born with those perfect jaw lines and noses riiight? If you were Oops! Totally didn’t mean to burst your bubble and make you aware of the infestation of plastic swimming in the sea that is the South Korean Entertainment Industry. But whatever! I’m not focusing on that non-sense; but more so the beautiful results of it. Honestly while watching K-Dramas and K-Pop music videos I noticed an odd pattern with regards to which guys I found myself being most attracted to. Don’t get me wrong I find about uhh umm 95%…ok 98% of the K-Drama actors and Idols hot; but there were just certain guys who would capture my attention more so than others. These guys were what I mentally categorized as “Plastic Princes”. The definition is as follows…

Plastic Prince: A male K-Drama Actor or K-Pop Idol who has undergone Plastic Surgery which has resulted in not only Un-Earthly good looks; but also an extremely fake and or “plastic” appearance. Examples include but are not limited to; Jung il Woo (Flower Boy Ramen Shop), Kim Jaejoong (Protect the Boss), and Kim Hyun Joong (BOF & Playful Kiss).

Yup, all three of them have gone under the knife and have achieved extremely beautiful noses that give them a total model worthy side profile. Not only do they bow down to the BB Cream; but because of their “adjustments” they have extremely symmetrical and visually appealing features that cause me to gawk at them in complete awe. So what I’ve realized is I totally prefer that EXTREME PLASTIC LOOK! I know right?! As if my longing for a Love Triangle wasn’t bad enough here I am admitting the more plastic the guy looks, the better. I just can’t help it and I don’t care because I’m totally secure enough to be with a guy prettier than me! I told you all I was shallow and trying to recover, but K-Dramas and K-Pop will not allow me to escape the Beautiful Side! What totally pushed me over the edge was freakin “Flower Boy Ramen Shop”! After 16 episodes of eye-gasmic images of Jung il Woo on my laptop I completely lost it!

I was like “O.M.G I WANT AN ASIAN GUY WITH NOTICEABLE PLASTIC SURGERY BECAUSE IT’S THE SEXIEST LOOK NEXT TO BABY PINK FAUX FUR AND MATCHING PINK MULTI GLITTER HEELS!!!(Gasps for air)” Perfect nose, defined jaw, high cheek bones, those lips, the hair cut…it was just too much of a visual overload for me to handle and that’s when I said it out loud…

“I HAVE A PREFERENCE FOR PLASTIC PRINCES”!!!!!

So yah! Well then, am I by any chance the only one loving this kind of look? 0_o

Like Plastic Princes? Or do you prefer the Human Look?

Totally with you on this one! My number one plastic prince is Noh Min Woo though. His face is so damn perfect that all I can do is drool when he's on screen. I think I just find Korean guys in general appealing though (plastic surgery or not), because I also find Lee Seung Gi and Cha Seung Won quite attractive, and they have more of a raw look to them.

Why are you bursting my bubble with the name dropping?!?! Ha, just kidding. I love the plastic princes as well but I won't avoid the ones that are "rough around the edges". I wonder who else had plastic surgery?

I think that most of the guys on Kdramas are hot! But my top three are: Song Seung Hun, Lee Min Ho, and Kim Hyun Joong. Are they "Plastic Princes"? You decide.

i totally agree with u just wrote what i usually think when watch these hearthrobs these boys and other appear clearly and obviously had plastic surgery but they are so damn perfect and beautiful i just don't mind and don't care if that matter i keep looking at them as if they are the best looking pictures i have ever seen ~ and take my attention closer to how they move how they act how they work just like magnet good looks is a powerful confusing thing ... plastic surgens in korea are really artists these guys are perfect these is something in their face that keeps u hooked and looking at a beautiful face like the roman gods statues kim jae jong there is something unearthly about that guy's face and kim hyun joong his face is so symetrical and all in the right place jung il woo so dramatic and pretty

I prefer the natural look, but it doesn't mean that I don't find Jung Il Woo or Kim Hyun Joong good looking. It never occurred to me that Kim Hyun Joong had had plastic surgery, but I always thought that Jung Il Woo's face looked a bit unnatural -- now I know why. lol While I find Jung Il Woo totally beautiful with his looks, the other two are good looking, but I'm not attracted to them, so I guess I don't really have a specific plastic or not preference; after all, I also find Lee Seung Gi adorable, Lee Min Ho as the hottest thing I've ever seen in Asian drama, and Song Joong Ki as the prettiest little thing ever. Plastic or not, I don't know, but they're darn good looking! In all my twenty plus years in Asian drama land, K-dramas have been THE place where I've found some of the most delectable looking young men ever (and I've been perusing HK drama and TW drama forever too).

I'm actually sort of grossed out by the super plastic look. I'm watching Sungkyunkwan Scandal right now, and the female lead has had so much work done that her face is completely without personality--it's like watching a pixar character that crawled out of the uncanny valley and came creepily to life. And the girl from Me Too, Flower is even worse: she looks like she's always wearing 15 pounds of snow-white pancake makeup and can barely mover her face :b

Amanda! HAHAHA! The moment you mentioned the girls I imm thought of the chick from "Me Too! Flower" because thats what I'm watching right now. I was tweeting like a maniac the other night because her nose job is reallllly distracting -_- Here I am trying to focus on the storyline but all that keeps popping up in my mind is "Her nose job is an EPIC FAILURE and so is the make-up artist for the lack of blush and conture that could have been applied to at least make her look decent!" But how good looking is Yoon Si Yoon in that??? ^_^

Erm, no. I appreciate the honesty, but truth be told, I'm kind of uncomfortable with this lauding of the wonders of plastic surgery. Can be dangerous. Lest we forget what happened to MJ's nose or the example above of Lee Jia from Me Too, Flower. I wish different types of (natural) beauty can be accepted and people don't feel the need to go under the knife. However, I accept that most actors or actresses have been nipped and tucked in some fashion. As long as it actually makes the person look and feel better, I guess it's ok. IMO, the best plastic surgery is the type you don't notice (i.e., I shouldn't be staring at the unnaturally high bridge of your nose the whole time). Or at the very least your cheeks or forehead should still be able to move, especially if your job is to emote! /Rant End

KrisE: I'm so on-board with your Yoon Si Yoon love--I think he and his character from Me Too, Flower, should be written into all new Kdramas made from here on out ;) Gotta adore a softie who cries at the idea of his girl loving him (even if she looks like an extra from The Hall of Presidents at Disney World!).

I honestly don't think about it. If they are good looking, then they are simply good looking. I feel like seeking out plastic guys is kinda like saying a guy is better looking for simply being asian. I'm not saying that's wrong either, everyone has their preferences. I'd personally just prefer someone that is naturally good looking. If it turned out they went under the knife for the looks, it's not like there's anything wrong with it either. I think I'm completely in the minority when it comes to Jung il Woo and Kim Hyun Joong. I don't think either one of them are particularly special. Sure they aren't ugly, but I don't think they are anything to write home about either. That's just me. I much preferred Lee Ki Woo in FBRS to Jung il Woo. Sure Jung il woo got in some really hot moments which was awesome, and I feel he's a great actor, but he was just meh for me. In BoF, I found Kim Bum the best looking of the for F4 followed by Lee Min Ho. Kim Hyun Joong wasn't even on the radar :p I think it may be due to my age though, but I prefer the older "manly" actors, not so much the pretty boys. Kang Ji Hwan, Lee Sun Gyun, Cha Seung Won, Gong Yoo and Daniel Henney to name a few... though I guess maybe arguably Daniel Henney is a pretty boy :p I feel those guys aren't pretty, just good looking. Anyways, sorry for the long post (tl:dr right? lol) Take care all!

I'm kind of pissed with this post. About Plastic princes and stuff. I don't think it's right nominating someone just because they look fake or plastic.I think it's low of you to consider them as someone who is fake.They are real either way,even if they had a surgery , which I don't know if they had one.

It is tru that they use surgery, I think because the pression they have in this industry. But OMG they look so hot that I don't care. Jung il Woo (Flower Boy Ramen Shop), look good. Maybe for us is hard to understand them, is all about culture

Jessie, Lame you're "kind of pissed" but there really is no reason to be. No one has been nominated for anything. I dont consider them fake because they had plastic surgery. I consider their looks to be plastic/fake because they had plastic surgery and its obvious. Also both Kim Hyun Joong and Jae Joong have admitted to having had plastic surgery. Jung il Woo well you can just google for that proof. My article is simply my straight forward personal preference for these particular guys that have had noticeable plastic surgery. Just as you would classify guys by "Flower Boys" or Beast Idols" I've just come up with a new classification..."Plastic Princes". In no way am I taking away from who they are as people or saying Plastic surgery is needed to be good looking. Hope that clears it up and makes you uhh less pissed ^_^

  Sorry, but Jaejoong NEVER admitted to any plastic surgery. Even if he did, he never said or implied. When asked he said he won't say anything. Besides, he pretty much looks the same when in his teens, before debut, on the selcas he had.

I like these actors, really character actors Cha Won(city Hall) (gratest love) Kim jae Won (Can you hear my heart, )(wonderful Life) Hyun Bin (my lovely Sa Soon)(Secret garden) el actor de THANK YOU, y can't remember his name.Joo ji Hoon (goong)( the devil) and actress always the two queens of comedy and drama, Kim su Ah an Miss Hye of Goong.

Does it really matter if they have gone underneath the knife? Bottom line is we have all enjoyed them in their respective roles.... so let's keep it that way. Yes I have been very curious on Jung Il Woo's perfect side profile but I enjoyed his acting more....

I'm not with you on this one. I think we need to celebrate natural beauty. I love Rain, Park Shi Hoo, Jung Jin Lee, Jung Joon Hyuk, and Jung Joon Ho. I think they are the most beautiful men on Earth. I love their noses and eyes just the way they are. So exotic and masculine. I am afraid posts like this will only encourage people to change themselves to fit a certain standard of beauty which is sad. We need to broaden our horizons If we can's see all the different forms of beauty there is.

What they did or if they did, does not matter. I just like the stars because they make the story more interesting. Somehow, looking at them helps me to decide who I want to see win the battle. When it comes to personal preference, I prefer the more earthy-looking man. This type of man gets his looks from living. He is not perfect in features and looks a little like he has survived, even if he did not win all, battles he faced. Pretty boys or flower boys as they are referred to in Kdrama, are okay to watch, but rugged shows endurance. Do you sometimes wonder would a flower boy really want to get into a fight? Somehow, I picture them screaming, "Not my face!" and I would understand that. Their faces are, afterall, what first attracts us to the series. However, once we can see their character, even the flowers start to wilt.

Wait, JJ admitted of having plastic surgery? Didn't he deny that? He said that if he actually went under the knife, he will be the first one to tell his fans. But nevertheless, I have to admit that its hard to believe that he didn't do plastic surgery.

  Jaejoong (JJ) hasn't had surgery. You can tell from his barefaced selcas that even though his face looks perfect, his nose does look different than in photoshoots. Makeup and photoshop can do wonders. And he developed double eyelids over his teen years, which happens too.

WARNING!!!! SS501 Fangirl is about to say something! Let's get one thing straight, Kim Hyun Joong admitted to having a nose job after it was broken. He didnt do it for his apperence. He even shows off the scar. However he does confess that in the future he will have plastic surgery when he's older in age and needs it.

Totally burst my bubble, I know they are too perfect to be born that way. The characters they perform would prove otherwise if they are really worth the fan following. But I like the actors who are so natural looking because it makes me believe in there roles more. Their imperfections make them more human for me.

I think that Rain is fantasy candy, seriously his " hip Dance " should be outlawed. but seriously pretty boys are cute to look at, but I much prefer a man who is masculine in shape, plump nose and all, and of course the atitude, self confidence, " fake" pretty boys do not exude this confidence because the surgery did nothing about the real reason for the surgery. plastic surgery shows an absolute lack of self love, but its their issue not my own, the realityabout people doing "nosejobs" is that they are conforming to the "western" concept of beauty and that is the saddeest thing about all this "plastic surgery"

wow, my three faves: Jung Il Woo, kim Jaejoong, and kim Hyun joong. I like them for their personalities as well, though. Jung Il woo seems to have an overflowing joy that just leaks out, He always seems on the verge of laughter. Hyun Joong is so painfully shy and awkward you just want to protect him. A-list actors and stars in the west are allowed way more leeway, i think, than in Korea which seems to have a very narrow idea about beauty. In the west, we can think folks like barbra streisand and forrest whitaker as beautiful. Our ideas of beauty range from dark to light, high-cheeks, low cheeks, pretty much everything. I like Jung Il Woo's tiny eyes. I'm hoping he does't change that. And I also loved his large large nose but I guess in Korea such a large nose was considered a detriment and not an ideal. Sad. I saw an interview with soong koong ki where he said how much he disliked his lips and I was so surprised. Those are the most beautiful sensual lips and somehow because of the korean media and the requirements he wasn't satisfied. just sad. Anyway, i'm with you on this...i guess i like plastic princes as well.

Jung II Woo had plastic surgery!! Omg! I'm new to Kdrama and one of the first series I saw was High Kick. I'm a black honey from Michigan that accidentally started watching Kdrama's and although I'm a novice, I'm hooked. I've watched all of Jung II Woo's drama's since High Kick and for the life of me couldn't figure out why I thought this young man was so fine. KrisE you summed it for me when you wrote, " they have extremely symmetrical and visually appealing features that cause me to gawk at them in complete awe." I thank you for helping me figure out why the hell I was wishing I was the one in that bathroom stall in “Flower Boy Ramen Shop" :s

While I am no advocate for plastic surgery, I think it is often undeniable that people are drawn to those with "perfect" features. Hyun Joong and Jae Joong are basically my all-time favorites in the K-pop industry, but not because they are "plastic princes" but because of their talent! I tend to prefer those who look more real and rugged, and who you can obviously tell have NOT had surgery as opposed to those who have. However, I look for personality and talent first, and often, that trumps everything. Either way, no hatin' because of PS. Love the stars for who they are, natural or not! Jae Joong and Hyun Joong will always be the best to me!

Actually, I think KHJ's nose is his least attractive feature. I am more in awe of his cheekbone structure which has got to be natural, it would take major surgery to re-structure the skull around the face. His nose is a little wierd actually. Doesn't detract from the total package though.

I loved reading this! I thought I was the only one who found these guys extremely good looking. I could tell some of them had work done (kim hyun joong, jang geun suk) but I kinda didn't care. Although I do think it is a bit sad that in that industry it's expected/required that the actors get a few alterations, I can't deny that the finished product is something I enjoy looking at. Lee Min Ho and Kim Bum are my favorites, but I find almost every Korean actor handsome, plastic or not. I have a much harder time looking at the girls who had work done for sure.

Why yes, I love plastic princes! Jung Il Woo, Jaejoong and Hyunjoong are all my favourite. To be honest, when I found out they had plastic surgeries, I feel better about myself. The unearthly good looks of theirs are not natural after all. That aside, looking at their before-pics, I think they're equally attractive without the surgeries too.

i prefer the man with natural good looking...the ones with manly face like so ji sub and sang wook..i'm not interested in beautiful or baby face men...not attractive in my eyes...but that doesn't mean they're not good looking... good looking but i'm not interested...i love so ji sub's face more...
