Jackie Chan Defends His Will

Jackie Chan has faced harsh criticism in the past several weeks since it was discovered that in his will, he plans to leave nothing to his illegitimate child, Etta. Half of his assets will go to his wife, Joan Lin, and the other half to various charities. In fact, Chan plans to leave nothing to his son Jaycee either, saying he feels Jaycee is old enough to make his own money.

At a press conference in Kuala Lampur, Chan said: ”If I had to decide who gets what in every aspect that stretches all the way down to grandchildren or great-grandchildren, when will it end? The best way to do this is just to give half of my assets to my wife, and the other half back to society. Simple, without any headache.” In terms of his illegitimate daughter Etta, he defended himself by saying that the will was drawn up 15 years ago, long before her birth.

On the one hand, his reasoning seems fair and philanthropic, so why must he get criticized for his decisions regarding his life’s earnings? On the other hand, many people choose to take care of their children when they pass on. What do you think? Is Jackie Chan doing the right thing, or is he leaving his kids out in the cold?

I don't think this has anything to do with any of us. It's honorable that Jackie wants to give back to the society, I think it's a little cold to leave nothing for his children, but they will surely get what's left when his wife pass on.

  If you notice, it says his son isn't getting anything either. Why would he amend the will for her, but not his son.

I see nothing wrong with it. Plus, who decided it was necessary to publicize it? Obviously someone not in it! His money, he do what he wants with it!

  I agree. anyone against his decision about HIS will, is obviously someone that wanted to be included in it. it's his money, he earned it and he can do whatever he feels with it.

Frankly his kids will be stronger without it. Having to work for what you have, instead of having it handed to you. And, in the end, it's his money, he can do with it what he wants. Look at....not Bill Gates, the other superrich dude, got his money from investments....he is leaving nothing to his kids, it's all going to charity. He says he worked for it, he paid for their very expensive educations and now they can earn their own.

  I also believe there is nothing wrong with Jackie's will. He worked hard for what he got so he can decide best what he wants to do with the money he earned. HE is giving half of it to his wife, who in return might share some of it to the children. I is very honorable of him to share it with the Society. I am sure somewhere somehow, the child will get something. It is not for us to judge.

  There is something more precious than money will ever be and that is gift of time and lessons passed down. Invest in the person, making education available to them, teaching them lessons you've learned, sharing and instilling your values. Money easily earned or not earned at all will likely yield very little comparatively. And think of the life and wealth that their father is alive to share with them now.

It's his money. No one gets a say on what he does with it. He earned it. If he asked me, I'd say that I agree with his plan. I have always loved Jackie Chan. I always will. He's an incredible human being.

I think that is one of the most responsible things he can do. Plus it's none of our damn business. That's between him and his family. Good for him for being like "Kids make your own money!" His kids will be better off for it.

He's right on the fact that jaycee can handle himself at this age since he already has a acting career. Hes been giving etta and her mother money every month(or so ive read) so it shouldnt matter where the rest of his money goes too after he dies. Giving half to charities that needs it is very generous i say.

I think instead of charity and his wife he should leave it all to me, but since that's not going to happen it's none of our business and no one has any right to criticize what he does with his money, not even his family.

His money his decision....but, wasn't it also his decision to bring those children into the world? His son will be taken care of by his mother but, Etta? So the will was drawn up 15 yrs ago...wills are changed all the time.

This is actually old news. He had made this decision long ago. I don't think it's appropriate for any one of us to comment on since it's his life and his decision. I think Jackie is just doing something that's not traditional. I hope he doesn't alienate his kids though by doing that.

Jackie Chan WAS my hero. To write his own will to not include his children. SHAME, Yes, I believe not to spoil my children. but to give the halves to charity is like F*ck my kids, let them fend for themselves. I had a hard life, let them appreciate the value of money. You can kiss my A#S. You got that much money? What did these children do to you?? Your Children is the extention of your Life. You don't care for much of that, huh? I am Chinese too, SHAME on you ! or should I say Piss on you !

Being I am a mother, I am with Jackie on this. I would however provide enough for care until they are adults and enough to get an education. After that they should go out, make there money, have a job and feel good that they earned there own way. This is what Jackie did, from nothing to everything.

i was a devoted fan of Mr.Chan after this I dont want to know about him .He leaves money to a women and not his kids you forgot mr, Chan you brought them into this world they didnt asked you to ''make them'' and now wash your hand I detest any man that loves a women than his own children.To think i cried for you when they falsely said you had pass away>Go ahead leave the money to your women so another man can enjoy it shame on you....ugh!

Jackie Chan should be free to give away his money to whom he wants. It's his to dispense any way he chooses. Children should learn that they don't have any right to anybody's money but the money they earn themselves.
