SM Entertainment debuted their dance unit SM The Performance at this year’s Gayo Daejun on December 29th. SM The Performance is comprised of idol group members who have the strongest dancing skills in SM Entertainment. The members are TVXQ’s U-Know Yunho, Super Junior’s Eunhyuk and Donghae, SHINee’s Taemin and Minho, and finally EXO’s Kai and Lay. Their debut was successful and SM officially revealed the group’s single, “Spectrum,” on December 30th. “Spectrum” is a cover of a song of the same name off Germany’s DJ Zedd’s second single and even has a surprising snippet of the famous (and two-year-old) EDM track “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” by drum and bass artist Skrillex.
Electronic Dance Music (EDM) has grown its global influence within the past few years, leaving its underground scene to take over the dance floors and stages everywhere. The tracks are an interesting selection for the dance performance, but are recognizable by EDM and non-EDM lovers. The song’s dance choreography was done by SM Entertainment’s in-house dance trainer Shin Jae Won and renowned dance team NappyTabs, who previously choreographed for Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez and other top stars around the world.
What do you think of the performance and the new single?
