Kim Hyun Joong‘s new drama City Conquest, which was to be broadcast on KBS, will be canceled due to technical difficulties. According to a press release by the production company, the network backed away from the offer because the show was “too violent.” KBS denied the allegations through Sports Seoul, claiming that the content’s quality was the deal breaker. The representative said “We debated whether to air it or not, and time and time again it just wasn’t up to the standard we expected.”

The production cost 4 billion won, and the company made various changes to meet the demands of the broadcasting company only to fail to achieve a slot on the 2013 roster. The drama was based on a comic about a young man named Baek Mi Reu who blames his father for abandoning him and his mother. As a result, he turns his life to revenge the evils of society.

I don't know that much about Korea, but I gotta say I really don't understand why they won't air this show. All I can think about is how violent City Hunter was. Was that show not aired on a network channel? I was looking forward to seeing this, so hopefully all that hard work won't go to waste & we will still be able to view it. It isn't too violent for America!!

  I was thinking the EXACT same thing. I think there is more to this situation than either party is letting on. Some underhanded backdoor dealings. Little bit of jealousy as well.

All I can figure is that if a drama starring Kim Hyun Joong was canceled it must have been REALLY BAD! I mean even a mediocre drama starring a guy that popular would pull in great ratings, so this thing must have been a total crapfest. Guess we are all better off that it got shelved. And I was so looking forward to watching the new buff, ass-kicking Hyun Joong :(.

  That's not the real reason why it got canceled though. I think KBS is afraid to air this type of content about politics with the new change in government. It looks like the government really persuaded KBS not to air it.

I don't understand WTF is going on here.I have been waiting for this for to long for it to not be shown.I've watched a lot of very violent movies,shows S**t even the news and i can't see my Kim Hyun Joong do his thing.Man i'm f***ing pissed.:((

Either 1: some government official got his nose out of joint because of the violence or 2) a third party bribed/blackmailed KBS into pulling the plug for some unsavory reason. Hey, it's been known to happen in other countries.

If it's a violent movie then fine...just have it R rated and then that'll be fine to. Also, put in the beginning that some viewers may be offended by the material shown but none is real and etc. I hope this drama will come out maybe later this year or soon.

TOO VIOLENT!!?????? My disappointment is tremendous!! I was SO looking forward to this. A lot of people diss Kim Hyun Joong but truthfully, he was my second favorite F4 following my Bummie! I'm just so sad......no words!!

  Same here! I was really looking forward to this drama; and Kim Bum was my favorite and Kim Hyun Joon was my second. Uhhhh! Its so disappointing! Loads of other K-Dramas are mostly full of violence and they still air it on a channel- but for this one they don't!!!!

From the other post that I've read, the main reason why KBS won't be airing City COnquest is because of the new government. I'm guessing that this drama has some kind of political ties and KBS (who at first was intrested in the drama) now feel that they would find themselves in hot water if they air this drama. This is why they keep giving excuses, after excuses why they won't be airing it.

How disappointing! KHJ has been getting all beefed up and looking hotter than ever. I wonder what "violent" meant since other dramas I've seen show lots of blood. Gotta wonder what's truly behind it... Send him to America! We'll take him!

I think "Violence" is an excuse made by someone who didn't know what was going on. It's not the first time KBS has done this to a production they ordered and were going to show that got put on hold. MOre likely then not they messed up the drama with the brodcast demands and now going to have to re-edit it and try to shop it to someone else.

I have to agree with the majority of people how bad was it compared to other shows. City Hunter was one of my favorite shows and I was really looking forward to this one. Hope someone else will pick it up.

I wonder how are they going to compensate for all of the overseas broadcasting companies that bought the rights to this drama based on the fact that they had signed Kim Hyun Joong for the lead role? I remembered there was an article posted on another webside a few weeks ago about broadcasting companies Japan and Tiawan buying the rights to this drama totaling aomewhere near $1.2 million.

Perhaps City Conquest should see if SBS will take it. They did have City Hunter and that was a violent show. And plus I don't see why KBS is saying it's too violent when they aired IRIS, which was a pretty violent show itself. And if SBS is afraid of airing City Conquest because it sounds too similar to City Hunter(name wise at least) then if City Conquest is good then people will remember the difference.

There's Probably A Hidden Reason For Canceling and Not Finishing It, That Is Well Always The Case With Shows That Go Off The Air!!!! Despite What Companies Say!!!! Probably Had Something To Do With The Storyline Of The Character Fighting Government Or Something Because The Synopsis Says He Fights An Evil Society, Unless It's A Fantasy Superhero Thing That Made Me Think Government Straight Away!!! Thats Apparently A Big Deal In Some Parts!!!! Hope In The Future This Brillliantt Actor Does Find A Kick Ass Tough Guy Role, Because Even Though There Sweet Im Rather Tired Of The Nice Sweet Guy Roles, Because Even Though We Love Those Shows, They Are Not Realistic, Then Again What TvShow Or Film Is!!! So I Guess The Tough Ruined Hardass Type Makes More Sense To Me! Except To Differ Frpom Real Life The Character Has A Soft Side, Which Is Why People Would Have Watched It, Also The Good Looking Factor Of The Actors In It!!! I am so disappointed. I LOVED LOVED LOVED City Hunter, and I was really looking forward to Kim Hyun Joong playing a real manly character. KBS, don't you know that some American fans watch your TV shows more than they do American network shows. I hope another network picks it up and has a BIG hit. Me parece absurdo eliminar una serie por sus contenidos. Ademas es la audencia quien decidi si es violenta o no, o si es buena pelicula o no, no sean hechos dramas en tv violentos y se han emitido(guerras, corrupcion,etc), es que ofenden a alguien en particular?aun asi hicieron ajustes en el drama para gusto del canal kbs. Ahi cosas que no entiendo, pero bueno se ve que en ese pais no hay libertad de expresion o visualizacion.
