Netizens Outraged at IRIS 2′s New Character

After upcoming spy drama IRIS 2 lost KARA’s Kang Ji Young, the producers of the highly anticipated drama decided to jettison the character she was meant to play—instead of hiring another young female actress to play her role as an NSS agent—and create a brand new character instead. Only this new character is a male—and rumor has it, producers are looking to cast an idol.

Netizens have been very critical of this decision. “So after hearing people say they don’t want a girl group member, they decide to go with a boy group member? Just stop using idols,” says one angry netizen. “There are tons of rookie actors but they are so determined to use an idol no matter what,” says another.

What do you think? Should they draw on another idol’s star power, or give a rookie actor a chance?

I have no problem with idol actors/actresses, but don't rely on their star power for a drama. If there is a rookie actor who isn't as famous, but better at acting then hire them.

I'm OK with using an idol. I have no interest in the show, and that would be the only thing that got me to watch it anyways. I already had to suffer through the first one for TOP.

I don't really care as long as the drama is better than Athena! I really enjoyed Iris, it's a lot to live up to. If the Idols fit the part then bravo I'll only complain if the stink. =)

They should draw from the already large list of talented "starving actors/actresses" that exists and leave the Pop Stars out of this drama. If they want people to take them serious, the ONLY one they could get away with (in my opinion because he was in IRIS) is T.O.P! Other than that, they should just cast a talented actor/actress and move on. DON'T listen to the Pop Fans. Jeez, its obvious that even though this group is a good percentage, they CLEARLY don't make up the majority of the audience that will enjoy IRIS2. Moving on!

My only opinion on using Idols vs. actors/actresses is that if it fits the show, then use the right person for it. In the case of Iris, if my memory serves, used only actors in that show. They did a great job delivering a tense, tight, action filled drama that delivers. There is no need to show a K-Pop star in a cation show unless you are trying to feature her or his music which may not fit the overall theme of the show. So, in short, use regular actors/actress for action and rom-com shows. K-Pop are fine as guest stars or as second leads ( see Fashion King with Yuri Kwon of Girl's Generation) for example.

GIVE a rookie actor a chance!!! some of these Idol actors are so stiff because they think they are high and mighty and their acting stinks!.What upsets me is why not a female> Ha Ji Won is excellent for this type of dramas also the girl from spy Myung Wol. They are attractive still young and the film industry in South Korea should begin to get in line with the 21st. century.Women all over the world deserve to be treated equal.We no longer live in the pregnant and bare era.If u think Dramas are popular now have more woman action packed dramas you'll see those ratings" blowing up" the charts.
