i think the punishment is a little weak, but... at least there is some sort of disciplinary action for not following the rules - regardless of celebrity status

  You think he did nothing wrong?! HE BROKE MILITARY PROTOCOL AND WENT AWOL(Absent Without Leave)!!!!!! He is lucky all he got was a week. Now, I'm not saying he should be flogged in the middle of the street, but one week of not leaving base is nothing - essentially, he will be doing what he is there to do... HIS JOB! He is not in the military to meet up with his girlfriend. He is there to follow orders and if he is not given permission to be off base then he does not leave base. And, Miss GUEST - if he hadn't been punished in some way, then that leaves it to believed that all celebrities in the military do not have to abide by the rules, which is insane. People, please use your heads and think before you comment something like this. I understand that we are all entitled to our opinions, but be smart about it.

    I think you need to be smart about what your posting, Rain didnt go "awol" as you say. He was on a mission authorized by the military to practice dancing routine for a military performance and he had to go to a studio to do that since the military has no accommodation for it. Therefore he was givin a ride back to base by Kim Tae Hee.

      I did not know all of that, but he still should not have been in a civilian car. He should have been taken from place to place by military personnel or had some accommodations made for him on base for dance (it is possible - he doesn't need a football field sized space). MY POINT is that he should not have been with her on 'military time.' His "mission" was to dance and get back and I don't see where Kim Tae Hee fits in. He took advantage of his time of base and that is what he was punished for in the end.

      And to, hopefully, put and end to this back and forth of ' you're wrong, no you're wrong'.... BOTH Rain AND the military screwed up. The military treated him with extra days out and in turn he took advantage of that. We all need to drop that celebrity image we have of him. He is in the military, which makes him a SOLDIER not a SINGER.

If he has to be punished for something thats his superior's faults then I'm glad this is all he gets. If you were given all that free time off base wouldn't you use it to see your friends and family?

If he was on his own free time and didn't sneak off when he wasn't suppose to I don't think its anyone's business who he chooses to see. However, if he left his duties without permission than I think the punishment would fit the crime.

Considering that he's basically working two jobs, and has scheduled promotions and tasks off base due to his celebrity, it's not an unfair judgement. Consider how much a week in lost revenue is worth not only to rain bi, but his production company, affiliated sponsors, workers, and such.

I think it is disgusting he was in trouble in the first place...I do not believe that Rain would break the rules at all. He would get permission first! I am glad they only did what they did to him...makes me very upset his record has a stain on it.

I also think that a week seems very light, but we don't know what "a week of confinement" entails. Rain seem to have also set a precedent for ordinary military personnel who commits similar offense, they should expect a week also.

If you knew any real truth of the situation, you would be saying he shouldn't be punished at all. He was told to go do military work and not even given an escort or Army transportation to do so. I guess he was supposed to walk there and back. Or take a taxi or the subway, and get mobbed, which would have led to another scandal as the wierd poparazzi would have taken THAT pic also. And guess what the army is still not ordering a escort even after all this.

I think he should have been punished as if he was a regular solider with no celebrity status. Then the public could be assured that the military doesn't treat the celebs different than regular soldiers. If they are not given special privileges then this wouldn't be a problem. I'm sure he wasn't sneaking out without a pass from his superiors, therefore I don't see a need for punishment. Doing something with permission should not exact a penalty. If he were a regular soldier, this wouldn't happen. The fact that he's a celebrity has everyone up in arms and demanding that he be punished. Too bad people can't wish him well and leave his supervision to his military superiors.

Sounds like they singled him out, BECAUSE he is a celebrity. However, his agent should have assisted in proper guidance so that no rules would be broken. And of course Rain, should know those rules too. Anyone else, it would never make the paper. Plus it's pretty obvious that Rain has been a very positive example and role model in his life of someone who had little and did everything. Always exercising and working hard. Anyhow, whatever the truth was, it was overkill just because it was Rain. Let it Rain!

Agree with you. Think it seems kind of fishy...it is announced he is dating Korea's little sweetheart and Rain gets in trouble. He has been a great rep for Korea all over the world. I also read he is so physically fit that out of 2,000 men he is ranked #2 and because of his ability gets vacation time.

Rain is such a trend setter he even got them to write a new military rule just for him. I think he got a light sentence because there are no military guidelines for the entertainer's and he did have permission to be off base. Bet going forward they will have stricter rules and enforcement in place. I just hope he is able to maintain this relationship with KTH

Yes, Rain was given time off, but it was supposed to be for taking care of business, not dating. That's why he's being punished. He's already getting special treatment being allowed time off to take care of business as it is. How many other celebrities are allowed to do this once they've entered their required military service? This was just a slap on the wrist. I'm a Rain fan, but I don't believe in giving special treatment because of status.

He is not being punished for dating Kim Tae Hee! He is being punished for violating the rules. He was given leaves to work on his music, not to go on dates with his girlfriend. I understand that he wanted to spend sometime with his girlfriend but that's no excuse to not follow the rules. I think the punishment was too light for not following the instruction of his superiors. He is in the military as a citizen of Korea and should not get especial treatment for being a celebrity. I love Rain but I think this time he didn't think through the consequences of his actions.

The rules are very vague concerning what should happen on these kinds of jobs and have been for a long time. It's time for the military itself to establish specific wording in it's rules and adhere to the enforcment of said rules to everyone including high ranking officials

I seriously dont think the Ministry would have said or done anything if the public didnt make it into such a big deal. Thats why I think the punishment is so weak. The military dont care, just as long as he serves. But since the media and public made it such a big deal, and probably threathened the military for being weak, they decided to do something about it, otherwise lots of other celebrities would have gotten punished as well. he deserves a harsher punishment. i love rain, don't get me wrong, but his time off was meant to do his business and dating is NOT what he was supposed to be doing. he wasn't let off to go do whatever he wanted, but rather he was sent out to do a job. when you're in the military, you should be treated as a soldier, just like anyone else there. he deserves a worse punishment for going AWOL like that. he's a celebrity, he should know better too

Define duty .. Was he on watch? ie guarding a post or doing a fire watch in the barracks? or did he sneek out after lights out and jump the fence? If on watch its way to light, and if he just snuck out maybe some heavy P.T. evry day for the week.

Well I am a retired US soldier and AWOL required an article 15 which is a severe punishment over here, especially when you are still in basic training. A soldier should be a soldier at all times, even though they are celebrities, that does not or should not give them and over advantage over the other soldiers. Shu when I first joined the military it was really HARD on me because they found out about my family. And because of that, they didn't look at my family status at all, but even made it moooooooooore harder for me, so that I could become a real soldier. In America, being in the military is a choice, but in South Korea it a most for all their males to join the military at a certain age. They should all abide by the rule, even though I love him, he is soooooooooooo cute, but he should always abide by the military rules, and they should not give him any special treatment at all. Dang she can wait till he get visitation time

Rain did not go AWOL and if we are comparing thier military with U.S. military, I got prego while I was unmarried, in the military, with another soldiers baby and I wasnt punished at all. If you knew the truth as he needed a ride back to the base so he called theTae Hee. I see this as a military fault for not providing rides.

Not really a week is nothing.But it will serve him as a lesson and example for others to think twice before taking advantage of their ''famous'' status. Falling in love is no excuse to fall short of your duties.After all if there is a real war (GOD forbid) he won't be prepared to face the enemy and'' LOVE'' won't win the war.

If, as the blog says, it was a light sentence compared to what normally would have happened if he was an everyday soldier, then I don't think the punishment fits. He was already being given special treatment by being allowed to continue his business (recording music and practicing dance routines) while serving. All others are expected to put their lives on hold while on duty including jobs/careers (right?). He had permission to do his job, not sneak in a quick date too. I think it's great that two people have found someone they care about, but he did break the rules and should have been given the same punishment as any regular soldier who visited his girlfriend while out doing a job.

actually, Rain is working as an entertainment soldier for the military and isnt paid anything extra. He's paid regular military pay and is ordered to give performances for military personnel for free. The military planned to use him for that a year before his enlistment. Besides that he also dj's a military radio show every weekend with another celeb KCM. I can vouch for that cause I listen to it every time, yes, Im in the U.S. No he doest record music: He is putting his life on hold because he can't record new music and because of his service he can't participate in the movie that Richard Gere had went to Korea to talk to him about. What he does in the music studio is practice dance for the military performances not anything new for concerts for his fans.

I'm not a celebrity, but coming from someone who was in the United States Marine Corps, his punishment was very weak. I'm a big fan of Rain, so I actually was a little disappointed because I didn't think that he would break a rule of that nature. You just don't break military protocols and think its ok. But whatever I still love him. We are human.

He got grounded? Lol I will never understand the concept of being grounded. No the punishment does not fit the crime. I think if it wasnt a kpop idol (or a less popular one) he would have been punished more severly.What he did is called desertion in some countries that's punishable by death. (I do think that death a very extreme but being grounded for a week. He's not 16)

The more I read about this the more I just shake my head. I KNOW (having been in Public Affairs while in the military) just how much unfair crap goes down when the press gets involved. In this instance Rain's getting flak for something his superiors caused (sounds like he had to provide his own transportation to work on his MILITARY publicity stuff offbase - so got his girl to drive him about! Smart man...) The Korean army is getting millions of $$$ (or won) of free publicity from Rain & other major stars - a very sweet deal. I want to meet that soldier/sailor/marine who, when offered free time from his commander says 'oh, no sir'....

Well, I'm sure it was worth every minute. I'd take 10x+ the punishment to spend some quality time with her :) If your willing to take responsibility for your actions and the reward is worth it. GO FOR IT! Love and attraction are such strong and powerful forces i'd take it easy on kids and younger people for doing what people in love do.. foolish things. I'd rather look into ways visitors could have access to military people while on duty but not on watch. So they wouldnt need to "desert" or go "awol" or disobey orders by talking to and catching a ride with a friend. Unless he's on watch performing specific tasks he's probably just confined to base for backup and readiness purposes. No reason to keep family or visitors away during that time. Stupid rules are stupid rules. They tend to get ignored or broken.

I don't know about korea but the US would court marshall him,and i would hate to see it happen only because i like him as a actor but he did do something wrong. what would happen if everyone in the military took time off to see a girlfriend or wife? this cann't be done for anyone, and i can't believe and hope this is i would have to hear this going on a mission from a high offical in the military. and from what i understand the korea millitary is a strict in their soldiers as we are i would hope. and i am an a army mom

sorry i have to correct my thoughts on the way i wrote this. i would hope the korean military would be more strict than to let this happen. any one famous and in the military should have to do their duty and follow the rules. i would have to hear from a general in the korean military about this mission to believe it. and if it happened in the US they would be court marshalled and thrown in prision.

Rain, if the allegations are true, I don't blame you for wanting some fresh air. But it may not do good for the morale fo his fellow military guys if you blow off what is a compulsary enlistment. Or this situation could be blown out of proportion because he is a celeb. Who knows....except Rain and the SK military. I was not there, I am not walking in his shoes, nor do I know what the situation is like in the SK military. People should quit judging him except for the parties envolved. He got a friggin' ride home after doing what the military asked him to do. I'm sure regular soldiers that have worked off base have been given rides home by friends/girlfriends and family members. Whatever. This is just news because the media captured it on camera and they are celebrities. If it was a regular soldier, then this wouldn't even be an issue.

Why does no one mention Kim Tae Hee? If it really was giving him an innocent ride, then it's moot but if not, she has a responsibilty to respect the uniform of a soldier and the country it represents. Show biz aside, Rain's reputation as a citizen is at stake. It takes 2 to tango.
