YG Says No to Plastic Surgery

YG Entertainment has taken steps to protect the innocence and natural beauty of its up-and-coming girl group. YG said that it has banned the members from undergoing plastic surgery. A contract has been signed between the members and the agency stipulating that the girls avoid cosmetic surgery. YG has been revealing the new members of the girl group that is yet to make their debut, and last week they released a picture of Kim Ji Soo on their website. The agency stressed that, “as she is a still a kid, we thought it was best to portray her as she is, without being made up.” Other photos show her with a bit of makeup:

Is asking members to not have plastic surgery a healthy sign, or does does this contract infringe on members’ freedom?

I don't have as much issue with plastic surgery as I do with how young some of these artists are and how they are portrayed. It doesn't matter which agency they are from.

I think this is a very positive thing. Not just for the young performers, but also for the young people who look up to these stars and want to emulate them. These young ladies need to grow up and love who they are, before they decide to alter what they look like. ♥

  I agree. Too many young girls and women who look up to stars and see them changing their appearance with plastic surgery feel like they should do the same. It is good to show that the girls are natural and are beautiful that way. Hopefully less young women will turn to plastic surgery in order to like the way they look.

I think it's a GREAT idea! I had a Korean friend who told me that in high school when many girls turn 18 their MOTHERS take them to a surgeon to get a double lid surgery, sometimes other work, as well- even while they are still in school! They are girls! So many young women(and some men) get work done on their face before they have time to grow into their facial features. It's sad that natural and unique beauty isn't appreciated. I'm glad that an entertainment company is starting to use it's influence to (hopefully) change that view.

K-pop and the Korean wave are very popular right now around the globe. I would hate to think that the next Korean spread would be the abundance of plastic. I commend this agency for braking the mold (sorry for the pun) and recruiting a positive message.

I support YG! Artists should be just contended on the way they look. And she's pretty as she is. There's really no need for plastic surgery geez. Anywaysss I'm soooo exciteeed for the incoming groups! They're going to be awesomeee <3

A responsible move by YG...so glad to see this!!! Don't think its an infringement, I think its a commitment to let the Pop Stars be natural and not have to have their looks modified to please the ever judgmental public! Well done!

I think one thing westerners don't know is that east Asians have their photos on their resumes. So employers can see their faces before they are even interviewed. It's not just kpop where looks are seen as important, but the entire job market.
