   Yeah, too little, too late. Dramafever has forever lost my support due to their ill-treatment of an awesome recap site - a recap site which, I might add, has done nothing but appreciate and promote DF since its inception. Such low-handed, despicable behaviour... it makes me sick.

     What else, the usual Remove Your Something LLCs they used last year to carpet bomb anything related to Reply 1997. They work on a per-DMCA basis so you'd see 20 sites grouped in the same DMCA. More moolah for them. No scruples or oversight, since nobody is crazy enough to fight a corporation over minutiae like these.

   As someone who has worked with a large policy enforcement department, I understand how this can happen. Protecting property is very hard in the age of the internet. I wish more people can understand that and more companies provide more accessible shows for the public.

   Anything that's not streaming related shouldn't be part of these DMCAs. DramaFever needs to see that watching kdramas is like jumping on any other bandwagon. There will be communities, fans, and haters and many of the activities that take place online will involve content sharing. THAT IS A GOOD THING, especially if it drives more people to DramaFever.

      I agree with you mathgirl.That is why I rarely watch shows anymore here at Dramafever. I have been a loyal customer for the past maybe like 5 years and I find it disgusting at what DF is doing to other sites with DMCA or whatever they are called.

    About time. Absolutely disgusting to go after the site that helped promote you when you first started . You should rethink the company you employ to police the internet. Everyone knows that recaps promote the viewing of dramas on sites such as yours. The screen shot pictures in recaps are a fuzzy area when it comes to copyright (fair use). And you pretty much don't have a legal leg to stand on when it comes to the actual recap, but I believe you already know that. This is an abuse of the DMCA notice system. I was planning on subscribing to your site, but now I am having second thoughts.

    Although I understand that you want to develop exclusives, etc, you do not understand the Korean Drama community. Sites like DramaBeans and Viki are community driven - not profit driven. You come off as a parasitic monopoly when you carelessly throw your weight around. You really look bad.

    I have heard that: "It has come to our attention that one of the third parties we use to protect our licensed content inadvertently caused problems for our friends at Dramabeans. We’re very sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused." has not just caused problems for our Dramabeans site but to a whole host of live streaming sites of the Korean network feeds. This issue is MUCH BIGGER THEN JUST OUR DRAMABEANS. the "THIRD PARTIES" are rattling cages all over the internet and it is possible they have overstated their case. It is possible they have no legal footing. This K-drama community is solely internet based, if Dramafever fouls this pond where do they intend to find their customers? This is short-sighted and Dramafever might consider getting a handle on these “Third Parties”. Before it alienates the customer base.

But tell us, were these copyright infringement hounds you sent out instructed on what actually constitutes as infringement, or did you tell them to ransack the whole Internet and find whatever their bots and spiders could get their hands on? Because soft subtitles, recaps and reviews fall under fair use protection, they're not derivative works (hardsubs would be). Or are you merely backtracking because a raging horde of Dramabeans readers threatened to cancel/canceled their accounts and this hurts your wallet? Now, be sorry for the inconvenience you might have caused to Darksmurfs' subbers who covered many more cable dramas you ignore, to With S2 that you exploited for years without a thank you to then force its Queen Inhyun's Man subtitles to disappear out of the blue, and to longtime bloggers and pioneers like Mister X, who have done more for this community than you ever will, and yet had to see months of precious work vanish because you were too greedy to ask him to remove a subtitle or two. We're a close-knit community, and this behavior will not be forgotten, whatever your high-faluting pursuits of corporate success might suggest you. Shame on you.

    Damn right.... Dramabeans is not imfringing on Dramafever at all... tbh I got to dramafever from DB.... I'm getting really tired of this sort of thing, especially with the take down of websites like mysoju, etc a while back... I know that Dramafever is trying to establish their rights, but it's completely annoying.. Dramafever's subs come out wayyy later than the other subbing websites and the subs are not in great quality either... -_- Seriously, there is nothing going for DF, nothing at all anymore.

    I think Dramafever authorize their legal team to go after Dramabeans using the "ilegal" use of images to scare them looking to stop the recaps, but they didn't expect this issue blowing up on their faces. Dramafever has a tendency of ignoring the fans when at the same time is trying to become the first choice for asian dramas viewing. I understand this is a business but you have to use common sense, because asian drama fans are really loyal and protective of whomever helps them enjoy their viewing experience, that's why we LOVE Dramabeans and we feel enraged against DF because you are really looking as a bitchy gold diggers who will stomp over the little ones who you think can decimate your revenues. I hope you will learn this lesson and refrain from using these backstabbing tactics in the future.

    Gotta say it. Jerk move. I understand protecting your business from ACTUAL threats, but honestly, without dramabeans I wouldn't be aware of half the dramas I end up watching on YOUR site. Which means in addition to being a schmucky move, it's also a genius one to boot. Thank you for rectifying the situation for the moment, but the whole thing doesn't exactly make you come out smelling like roses. "Third party" or no.

    As a fan of Dramabeans who has watched shows on your site based on their recaps and recommendations, thank you for working quickly to resolve this issue. I hope in the future you will work more closely with third parties to set priorities that recognize the importance of fan and recapping communities in spreading interest in K-Dramas which is beneficial to your site.

    This whole affair has left me with an extremely sour taste. This whole fiasco has opened my eyes to the underbelly of your site. I did not realize that the recent loss of many other K-drama-related sites/posts (not just screening, but some pure recapping sites) are due to you dramafever, and your business corporate GREED, your lack of care for fellow K-drama community members, and your third party enforcers. I do not plan to ever use and subscribe to this site again. Good bye and good riddance.

    Too late. I'm NEVER subscribing or watching on Dramafever in the future. Messing with video hosting sites that are illegal in the first place is one thing, but messing with Dramabeans? BIG NO NO.     I'm a loyal Dramabeans reader who found out about Dramafever through Dramabeans. This apology sounds more like they're sorry there was such backlash. I'm NEVER coming back and I'm telling all my drama-watching friends to do the same.     Good thing majority of the people are calling this BS. I'd rather watch raws now than support dramafever who can't even ensure to proofread the subs. And it's true, dramafever wouldn't be known to many kdrama internet watchers if it weren't for recap blogs like dramabeans.     You claim to be a part of the international Kdrama fans community, and yet you try to make trouble for other sites that fans love? Are you trying to make Dramafever the ONLY site where we can watch Korean dramas? I don't want that. There's no sense of community here, your video quality isn't that good for most dramas, you're the slowest at uploading new episodes, and honestly your subs suck (I know because I speak Korean). I don't want to support a website like this one, so I'll be deleting your app from my phone, unliking you on Facebook and unsubscribing. Buh-bye.

      Actually for those of us who understands, the sub quality depends on the subber for the day. And most of the time, they don't translate what is said. Just the summary. So the nuances are lost. Plus they don't proof read their subs before release. And they insert American slang or Spanish words in their subs. Plus the case in Gaksital where they called a Korean gisaeng a geisha. Such a stupid cultural mistake in a drama about Japanese and Korean occupation. So yeah, the quality and accuracy are not there.

    You know your subtitles are the worst right? The reason why most of us actually need recaps when watching shows you stream is because we don't understand a lot watching them here. Also noticed that you've targeted subbing groups that work for FREE for the international Kdrama viewing community when you guys are so limited. This is a pain when most of the Kdrama viewing community is actually from Asia and not the US. Also, you actually used their soft subs without ever crediting them when you started out. That's ingratitude and selfishness. These are the reasons I stopped watching shows here ages ago and I urge others to do the same.

        In addition to other glaring mistakes, DF often misses and/or completely mistranslates nuances, jokes, and idioms that are culturally interesting. Things that good recappers often explain. For example, in one of the last FBND episodes, a commenter pointed out that they'd seen the episode on DF and a cute joke was totally mistranslated. My Korean is starting to get to where I could find those mistakes on DF, too -- back when I used the site. I like to get into languages, so their subs aren't fine for me at all.

        No their subtitles are far from perfect. I know enough korean to know when there are wrong translations in a show. They may not seem important enough to some people but there are many who are newbies to kdramas who will be left with misinterpretations. There are tons of shows here that have WITS2/viki/soompi subtitles(uncredited I might add)but there are also ones that are obviously their own translations especially currently airings shows. Sometimes the characters will talk for a half a minute and the subtitle will only be a a short phrase. This maybe be condensing the meaning of the translation in some cases but more often than not I have seen completely wrong translations that have left me perturbed. This is not including cases where there are grammatically incorrect and slang-y translations that do not fit the context of the shows like sageuks. Subtitling is very important for a site such as this that aims to bring international audiences to try Asian shows and should not be taken as a light responsibility. Its those who don't get this that might be lacking in sense. Just sayin.

    Being an American that is relatively new to KDramas (a little over a year ) I have to say DF this looks bad as I read and understand it more .. I too agree that other sites such as Viki Dramacrazy and Crunchyroll offer superior subbing with faster results and a better understanding of their fan base and the KDrama Community. To take people and sites that promote you DF and the shows you have available with recaps photos etc seems inane at best .. even a dog knows not to shit where it sleeps ... truly ! just how do you think I found my way to DF and became a subscribing member ? ( dramabeans ) and why now do you think I am no longer a subscribing member ? ( dramabeans ) I did not know of the "controversy" at all until I received your tweet as I am also new to twitter ... it seemed like a half hearted, vague, quasi apology to me in that you throw fault at a anonymous 3rd party rather than just own up .. after all are you not the one directing/hiring the third party for the purpose in which you now somewhat apologize for their actions ? I'm not sure how I wish to deal with your site any longer I will continue to follow the story more closely now ..     I sent in an email complaint before I saw a link to this page on twitter, but I haven't changed my mind. The dramafever link has been removed from my blog and I have been telling all my Kdrama watching friends about this. Like others have said, there's more to the story than just Dramabeans, although the issue with DB is what drove me to act. It is absolutely ridiculous the way DF is bullying the Kdrama fan community with actions like this. You can apologize all you want, but the emotional damage is done. There was never an apology for causing Mister X's site to disappear. I think DF is jealous of sites that make better subs and offer better commentary. I think DF wants to force the Kdrama fan community to have no other alternative to watch or read about Kdramas except on their site. I think DF no longer cares about its roots in the fandom, but is now only concerned with taking advantage of US copyright laws to bully those without the financial means to fight back. You can blame it on third parties all you want, but you are ultimately responsible for the DMCA because it was sent in your name and you hired the company that trolled the 'net looking for so-called infringement. You can say you're taking steps to correct the situation all you want, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

    DF, I'm very disappointed in your recent actions to police Kdrama community. I understand that this site is for profit, but alienating your consumers might not be the best way to do it. A move to create a monopoly over drama contents is the very definition of greed! And it benefits so few people. If you want to increase viewership and membership, I join others in suggesting that you should improve your site like -- providing better subs, having fewer intrusive ads (seriously, watching ads popping up every few minutes is annoying, why do you think people stop watching TV nowadays!?), having variety, and most importantly giving us FASTER episodes. If you give your consumers the BEST service available, I'm willing to bet this site will gain more popularity and positive reviews. Work on your own problems, please!

    Its actually pretty easy for mess ups like this to happen with the way the laws work. So everyone going half crazy isn't helping. While I agree that the subbing style/posting speed could use a little help, the user interface of this site is much easier to use then the others mentioned here. Its very straight forward. I'm a premium member and 10 bucks a month for my main source of entertainment is really cheap. Going to the movies isn't this cheap.

      $10 provides you only 1/3 of the content other sites provided for free with much greater subbing accuracy. When DF first came around, I used it as a back up source to other sites that provided timely, accurate subs. It's sad that their greed has turned them into such f*cking bullies. I also know that they originally stole soft subs from these very sites that they have not forced to shut down. For shame!!!! They seem to forget the power of social media to completely decimate companies. You keep railroading a community and guess what, they fight back together. SCREW DF.

    SHAMEFUL! This is just a letter issued for damage control due to the huge backlash from a underestimated fan base. I bet DF isn't even really sorry and is worried about the possible $revenue$ loss from members unsubscribing. But I can tell you this, I've been turning my kdrama watching friends to DF's website because of the picture quality and the amount of kdramas there are here... But if DF's going to go bad ass against DB's I might reconsider my subscription and my support.

    Too late DF. This is not the first time this has happened. Are you forgetting the hoo-ha surrounding Reply 1997? MisterX, kimchidrama, mysoju. It's not their fault you guys are slower at releasing POOR QUALITY subbed episodes. Btw can someone confirm whether this is true or not: DF translates from chi subs to Eng. Sloppy work from a shady company. Nothing wrong with Kor->Chi->Eng but at least be upfront about it.

    May i also add that there are many other FREE QUALITY websites that are also FAST when it comes to subbing episodes. DF has a paid option and yet no amount of money can make you release quality subs. It's no surprise DF has resorted to bullying other wonderful fan subbers and websites.     Dan, your apology is way tco vague, weak and 'neutral' to elicit any reaction other than incensed outrage. What's the problem with the company being as upset as the fans with this? Why isn't DF taking more responsibility and letting people know they're listening to them? THAT'S social media! Communication doesn't just go from bloggers to the people. I knew you guys were cruising for trouble. First from the fact there are 7 tracking sites here that add revenue in addition to the commercials and your customer's fees. Then the lack of response to emails, and the site change without warning and way too little communication to your loyal watchers. The only improvement I've noticed is the awesome new player. I still find it mostly a hassle and not enjoyable to use. THEN the ugly blogposts I won't go into. A business needs a relationship with their clientbase. I'm reading that people here remember DF's origin and where those early subs came from. FOR FREE. And I hear them asking for TRANSLATIONS not paraphrases. Oh, YEAH, I agree with that. Where are the Korean translators, please. Let's leave the Chinese language step OUT of this! Are you listening to anything anyone's said here? Are you going to respond or just pretend it isn't happening? Will you be talking about this on the podcast? Or is it back to talking about which actress has the face surgery? Please. This is the business's chance to take it to the next level, or... you could not learn a thing from what your clients are asking for. Others can do a better job of saying what needs to be said than I can, and in fewer words. But I just wanted to say that what is happening now is part of a bigger communication and relationship issue that's been going on for awhile.     Would there even have been an apology had it not been for all the rages and reactions from so many kdrama fans? DF doesn't even work for me since I don't live in the US, but it irks me that they make actions to sites that provides information, subs and recaps for kdramas. A monopoly that affects all other countries as well...? I need to unsubscribe the spamming from DF to my email.

    I will no longer be supporting DF. It doesn't matter if DF claims this was a third party mistake or not. DF has a history of bullying other sites and I'm tired of it. For anyone reading the comments and thinking "They are blowing this way out of proportion", this isn't just about DB. It's not the first or last time DF attempts to bully another site.

    The comments here make me really, really proud. How wonderful to be a part of this community! The outrage we all feel? Take it seriously, DramaFever. We mean what we say. And this is not just a temporary thing, or only linked to the DramaBeans stunt that you mean to gloss over by passing on the blame to a shady "third party": Ever since your major crack-down on the subbing community last year, the rage has been there. Not only were your actions unethical, you also did not have a legal right to go against them. Nothing they had was yours or yours to protect. All you have come to represent (the bully that everybody fears and detests) is the direct opposite of what the multinational, multicultural community of KDrama watchers stands for. You seem to confuse the protection of licensed content that is 'yours' (though that label is a far stretch already, let's be honest) with a coercive business strategy that seems geared solely towards making sure people all over the world can only watch KDrama on your site in the future. I turn away in disgust. Shame on you.

    Sure, blame it all on this mysterious third party. Was this the same third party that couldn't tell the difference between an illegal streaming platform and an innocuous review site that occasionally posted subtitles for niche dramas nobody else covered? Then they're clearly incompetent and you need to get better third parties. But enlighten me. Next time something like this happens - and you know it will - will you offer the same halfhearted apology or go on business as usual? Because thanks to your monopolistic practices we're losing important pieces of this community, and next time there might not be a loyal fanbase ready to take out the forks to fight the Goliath of the piece. Write something more, please? Reassure us this won't happen again, no matter the size of the mistake.

    such a shame considering that people actually first heard of dramafever from visiting dramabeans. Even if its a third party's actions that had caused this issue, it's still something that shouldn't happened in the first place. Obviously dramafever doesn't understand the culture and fanbase of the kdrama watching community. This community thrive on the generosity of people who endeavor in bringing accesibility to kdrama and feeding the fans with infos, synopsis, subs and whatever materials of any form that can be provided. Fans feels indebted to these people and this breeds loyalty. I am for one would always support and show my loyalty as a sign of how I feel indebted to these generous people by bycotting sites that would step on the sites I have followed for years. I will not go back to this site, nor will I recommend this site to any kdrama fan I from where ever in the world that i meet on forums because I believe that there should not be any monopoly in this community nor should there be in the future. Such attempts should be nipped on the bud as early as possible. So unsubscribe, don't visit any site who makes any steps towards any form of monopoly.

    I'll give you a lesson from the website side of things since I've been giving suggestions to you from the beginning, in an effort for free to improve your website, though I get paid in real life. (I think I'll quit now...) Enforcing DCMAs never works. Do you remember Zune? Exactly. Do you remember the government trying to break the back of the internet when they didn't understand it? Exactly. Why did Encyclopedia Britannica go out of business? Because of Wikipedia's community. You'll get fan rage when you bite the hand that feeds you, say, WITH S2. You don't have a strong community here. What do other sites have that you envy? Community. I've told you that before too, near your inception that reviews can be separated from comments. And see.... you went and didn't listen. When you keep biting the community that feeds you, people sit up and listen. The internet is social. You need a sociologist in your ranks because clearly you still don't understand the fundamentals of the social dynamics of the internet. This sounds too much like passing the buck (I swear we didn't know) and also that you got caught this time biting a major hand that feeds you. (Dramabeans) I also told you to fix your subs and you still haven't fixed them. I even said how. Look "Yoon Yoon Jae" should be Yoon Yoon Je. And please, for the love of God understand that a gisaeng is not a Geisha. You've gotten that complaint at least a few times. I complained to Hulu, who said it was your fault. (Hulu is still standing 'cause they also don't aggressively chase, say the NY times for doing recaps and encourage community.) I think the K-drama community is far more informed than you think. And it's insulting to Korea who had to go through the Japanese occupation where this type of thing was the norm. (Since some of your staff is Korean, I think they would get that.)

    If it wasn't a tactic of your company to go after everything and everyone you think infringe of your so-called rights, this wouldn't have happened in the first place. You know exactly what's going on and the only reason this has exploded is because DB thankfully has a loyal and vocal fanbase. The rest drama community hasn't been so lucky with your litigious greedy ways. You can be sure that I will NEVER use this site again and I can only hope that other drama fans will do the same.     I can even understand targeting unlicensed streaming sites...but seriously, screen caps on a review site? Like many here, I discovered DramaFever because of DramaBeans and this whole thing just makes me sick. And what's this about Queen In Hyum 's Man, which is a show many begged for DF TO LICENSE and they have never included in their lineup. How could they threaten someone about a show they don't even carry? I'm still a subscriber, but...DF...I'm watching your actions carefully from this point onward. It won't take much to tip me into the former subscriber category.

      Yes, many subscribers have begged and begged for DF to carry Queen In-Hyun's Man. I have asked many times, and the only response has been that they will notify me when it is available. I found out through another party that they had bullied WithS2 into removing their subs. And months have gone by, and DF has done nothing but suppress other sites while doing nothing to add to their own site. So there is currently no site in the US where you can watch this show, and we have Dramafever to thank for this.

Take responsibility for your actions instead of trying to pass the blame to nameless others. I find your actions not only with DB's but with other websites: nasty and petty. If it weren't for Dramabeans I would not know that Dramafever existed. I truly hope this mistake will be utilized as a training tool to prevent future mistakes.     DF, you really have your head up your butt on this. Instead, concentrate on improving your own business to give us reasons to find you impossible-to-leave. Slow, incorrect and incomplete subs, your inability to answer customer emails, missing episodes (why can I find them from your feed on HULU and not on DF? thanks for making me pay twice!)and poor quality video do not make you a "can't do without it" resource. It's time for less Harlem-Shaking and Ping Pong (pls see DF Harlem Shakes video) and more quality effort. Who can be so ignorant as to run their best customer-delivery service out of business? *shakes head* DF, we're all watching you now, and not in the way you hoped.

I agree that its sole concern should be to make itself so good that there is no worthy competition, free or otherwise. But DF isn't adding any shows I'm seriously interested in and hasn't for over a year!!!! I come here for Korean shows, especially sageuks, and you're now emphasizing Latin, other Asian countries and a bunch of simulcast rom-coms which don't interest me. So, not the content I'm wanting, inferior translations, unresponsive to clientbase, infuriating blog and... now you're trying to control the internet? Honestly, are you trying to discourage and alienate us?!

I for one am glad you apologized to Dramabeans. That site is very helpful to your business model and attacking it was just dumb. I forgive you. I will continue to pay for my yearly subscription. Not because I think all fan sub sites are evil. I dont and I have probably used everyone of them at some point and probably will again. I pay because if I do not at least make an effort to support the LEGAL drama site them I am just a thief. And all these whiners and complainers who would rather steal then accept that you are a company designed to turn a profit are ridiculous. I will say that I agree with some of the complaints about your subs. Frequently you don't subtitle words displayed on screen that are pivotal to the story (the first episode of Arang is a good example). You also do some weird Americanizing that is jarring at times. You should definately fix that.

      I don't feel entitled to get free stuff. However, outside the U.S there is no other way to get subtitled Asian dramas. I live in Australia and have been watching Kdramas now for about 8+ years. Good quality sub titles are hard to come by. DF made a very weak attempt to trial their product last year. All I can say is 'very disappointing'. I was more than willing to pay, but their product was/is slow to appear or doesn't appear at all. So sites such as mysoju allowed me and many, many others outside the U.S. to enjoy Kdramas. I'll continue to source sub titled dramas from where ever I can, until a good quality service provider comes along. As someone has already mentioned the mysoju site had a historical and rated list of dramas that was invaluable to me. As for sites like Dramabeans, recaps are also invaluable, they provide the cultural insight for a non Korean and fill the gaps of understanding when sub titles are less than optimal, plus their extensive knowledge provides ongoing context re: development of the industry in Korea, actors, directors, writers etc - a complete experience. I would read references to a 10 yo drama on DB and watch via sights like mysoju. It's common sense, just sayin'.

    I am mortified and shocked at some of the vitriol being lobbied at Drama Fever. They mad a mistake, they apologized for the mistake I don't understand the need to lobby such hate at them. Though the decision of their legal team to send a DCMA to Dramabeans was CLEARLY wrong and overzealous, they are well within their rights to protect their copyrights. Do you think legally licencing dramas is FREE for them. They have to pay the production companies and networks for the privilege and though it's unfortunate that some subbers have been removed from the site, MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY of those "subbers" were not actually fan subbers but were exploiting the k-drama community by taking fan subs and using them without credit for their own profit, which they were not then splitting with the ACTUAL copyright holders. They earned significant profit from their without one dime being given to the production company/actors/hardworking crews that go into creating drama content. Several I am seeing repeatedly named in these comments, went even farther by deleting dissenting comments by those who called them out on their unsavory ways, Drama Fever on the other hand is giving everyone a platform to practically vilify them over their mistake, which they have quickly endeavored to correct. This service is infinitely cheaper than buying drama DVDs and though it is not perfect (ARANG SUBS OH MY GOSH T-T), it is constantly improving and getting better and better. I will continue to support both dramabeans and dramafever to satiate my K-drama addiction. and no I am not a drama fever staff.

    So, I have a question that's been bothering me for awhile now. What happened to mysoju.com? I've been watching Asian dramas on the Internet for years. I loved mysoju. Not only did it have about 15 years history of Kdrama, Jdrama, and Tdramas - it also had a rating system. So you could see how many times a show had been watched and how popular it was. That rating system was pretty spectacular and we've lost it to never-land. I get that they shouldn't have streamed from your site, but if they were using a different source to stream from, they technically weren't violating YOUR copyright. Even if the streaming portion of mysoju had to be taken down, I wish the years of history, synopsis's, and rating system could have been left in place. If I find out that Drama Fever was involved in the dissolution of mysoju - I'll never be back. It's value to the Kdrama community was irreplaceable.

      Of COURSE DramaFever was involved with the shutdown of mysoju and, at the same time, KimchiDrama (another heavily relied on source for KDrama). DramaFever single handedly went after the two sites claiming violation of title privacy rights and got both shut down within days. Nice, huh?!

    And - one more comment on mysoju.com - there was not a better repository of Mandarin dramas (Taiwanese and Mainland) anywhere. I miss that. Viki does a few a year, but mysoju had 15 years worth of MDramas and movies. So sad that it's gone. Someone did a huge disservice to the Asian Drama Community!

Causing the shut down of already multiple subbing sites that not only gave better subbing, but free subbing as well as treating viewers like viewers instead of consumers.
