American artist Andrew Michael Golden is a freelance designer who creates altered realities and original worlds. He also re-imagines existing brands and creates the altered realities for existing characters, often comparing the real with the imaginary. He pieces together images on Photoshop and Maya to bring characters to life, and now your favorite characters of Studio Ghibli have been brought to life as well!
Studio Ghibli is the home to many feature film animations like Howl’s Moving Castle, Castle in the Sky, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Ponyo, My Neighbor Totoro, and the list goes on. Check out his talented work below.
Growing up, most of us had Totoro as a part of our life. Here is what the artist visualizes the real Totoro to look like:
Spirited Away away in real life… ok, maybe a tad creepy:
Jiji, the hilarious cat from Kiki’s Delivery Service!
Porco Rosso the half-man, half-pig war pilot:
The brave and bold Princess Mononoke:
The future alien world of Nausicaa, my favorite Studio Ghibli film. Although the Ohm is a little too big and scary for me to handle:
The feisty Calcifer you can’t help but love from Howl’s Moving Castle:
Everyone’s favorite little fish-turned-girl Ponyo. SOOO precious, even brought to life:
Do you think you could still be fond of these cute and cuddly characters now that you have an idea of what they would look like in real life?
