Cha Seung-won joins Athena castmates in Italy

The cast of Athena has been busy with overseas shoots in scenic locales, but apparently Cha Seung-won wasn’t a part of the first shoots. He was the last of the team to head to Italy, which he did this past weekend, joining the crew that had been there since early July.

In Athena, Cha once again exudes a “cold and powerful charisma” as the “Sohn Hyuk” character. Hyuk meets Jung-woo (Jung Woo-sung‘s spy character) in a “historic [?] first meeting in Italy.” (That question mark is mine; with a descriptor like “historic,” Imma be expecting something incredible.)

Jang Dong Gun (All About Eve) and Ko So Young were married in an elaborate ceremony befitting Jang’s status as one of Korea’s most popular actors. The event had a guest list of 500 and drew many of the biggest stars in Korea, including Kim Nam Gil, Cha Seung Won and Lee Hye Young, who caught the bouquet. Whoa! IRIS just went on the air late last month in Japan, in the unprecedented (for a foreign drama) primetime spot, but it’s been suddenly yanked off in the face of copyright infringement claims by a Japanese company called Ainsuemuandoemu. The company claims to have created the drama in 2005. Hopefully for Japanese fans, the matter will be solved quickly so that the drama can continue airing. Drama on the set of Bayside Shakedown 3, the Japanese summer blockbuster that was to introduce a new character played by Oguri Shun: evidently at co-star Oda Yuji’s insistence, Shun’s role has been swapped with that of Ito Atsushi. It seems that Oda felt Oguri was too fresh and clean looking to play his nephew in the detective film and pushed hard for Ito to take over the role.

From the manhwa page to the big screen

I know I just posted about this movie, but I dig stuff like this. With the buzz growing for the film Like the Moon Escaping From Clouds, now attention is turning toward the original manhwa upon which the movie is based, which was written and illustrated by Park Hong-yong. Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the four main characters in the manhwa and film, played by Hwang Jung-min, Cha Seung-won, Han Ji-hye, and Baek Sung-hyun.

They have all dreamt about the moon that escaped from the clouds. Lee Mong-hak (played by Cha Seung-won) wants to shine as the king who renews the rotten Chosun period and Hwang Jeong-hak (played by Hwang Jeong-min) hopes he can clear away clouds by blocking Lee Mong-hak who took away his conviction and the life of his friend.
