After making her name in drama series like Green Rose, My Girl, and Chuno, Lee Da-hae is ready to make her movie debut. She has been cast in the 3D historical project Song of Springs [현의 노래], a project described as “a movie telling the life story of legendary court musician Woo Reuk, who opened up the world of sound in a world ruled by the sword.”

Daniel Henney

Rain’s drama Runaway is getting an extra dose of handsome as it was announced that Daniel Henney will join the cast in a role that seems to be in the making, created just for him. Henney previously appeared in My Lovely Samsoon and other Korean dramas before appearing in the ill-fated American medical drama Three Rivers. Whether Henney’s character will speak English (as he has favored in his other series) or Korean is still up in the air.

I doubt that Lee Joon Ki appreciates it, but Jae Hee is telling the press that Lee is having a “very hard time” adjusting to military life. The recently released blabbermouth painted an unflattering image of Lee (although admitting to only meeting him once), as feeling awkward about his crew cut, and worried that his skin will get too tan in the sun.

The IRIS concert was a big success, so why not try it for Chuno? Actually, the goal of the recent Chuno soundrack concert is to help Children’s Charity rather than advertise the series. Check out photos of stars Oh Ji Ho, Kim Ha Eun and Han Jung Soo on stage and behind the scenes right here.

Lee Min Ho celebrated his 24th birthday a little early with his fans, and told them that all he wants this year is a mountain-climbing girlfriend!

We saw pics from the recent Road No. 1 press conference featuring So Ji Sub, and now there’s video from the event. Unfortunately it’s not translated yet, but if you’d like to see the man in action, check it out!

Easy magazine readers in China have named Park Shin Hye as the continent’s top female star!

And finally, the first preview from the much-talked about season of We Got Married featuring 2PM’s Nichkhun and Victoria from f(x). The show doesn’t begin until next weekend, but you can find out what Victoria’s favorite food is by watching the preview clip of the two getting to know each other.

Song Il Kook

Lee Na Young has confirmed that she will co-star opposite Rain in the autumn spy thriller Runaway. Last appearing in Kdrama in Ireland (which hits Drama Fever tomorrow btw), Lee’s return will have her skipping across Asia as the story is set in Tokyo, Macau, Busan, Shanghai and many other iconic cities. Runaway is scheduled to premier in September.

Jumong’s Song Il Kook stirred up controversy with remarks he made anticipating his stage debut in a double role as historical figures Ahn Jung Geun and his son, Ahn Jun Saeng. While Ahn Jung Geun is a famous figure of the Korean resistance of Japanese occupation in the early 1900s, his son Ahn Jun Saeng was branded a traitor to the cause. Song, whose family has figured prominently in Korea’s independence movement, gave remarks sympathetic to Ahn Jun Saeng. That’s all it took for him to be branded by a some as a traitor himself. The upshot is that prior to the start of his new play (called I Am You), a dialogue with the audience will be held to help ease tensions.

On a lighter note, Kdrama celebs are being called on the carpet for being huge fatties by the always-sensitive internet universe. First up, Park Shin Hye was lambasted for appearing slightly more substantial than usual. Birdie Buddy’s UEE also got nailed for having a mini-muffin top in her vacuum-sealed vinyl short shorts (although some kindly suggested that the photos may have been photoshopped by anti-fans). Fearing the kind of harsh criticism that befell those starlets, Jang Geun Suk has announced that he’s going on a diet.

Lee Dong Gun is entering the army, after a health-related postponement. Meanwhile, the military has decided that Lee Joon Ki would best serve as a “celebrity military officer,” working to boost the morale of soldiers by hosting military television and radio shows, as well as making other appearances in order to “fulfill various cultural desires.”

Chuno’s General Choi Han Jung Soo hit the catwalk the other day in a bizarre fur shawl that looks great if you’re… uh… building an igloo?

Finally, have a look at Kim Hyun Joong totally cracking up about something on the radio show Young Street. His SS501 bandmates must have been pretty “on” that day, because Kim had to run to a corner he was laughing so hard!

T.O.P.

IRIS star and Big Bang member T.O.P. became so overwhelmed at a screening of his new Korean War film 71: Into the Fire that the post-screening Q and A had to be postponed so that he could put himself back together before answering questions. In the film, T.O.P. plays Oh Jung Bum, a student whose letters home form the basis of the story of a small group of student soldiers who defended against a much larger North Korean army.

T.O.P.’s IRIS concerts in Tokyo and Osaka also started late, but this time Lee Byung Hun apologized for the delay. At both venues, areas designated Standing Room Only were taken over by additional stages, sending people scrambling to seats on higher floors, or standing their ground and arguing with the staff. Lee promised to perform “more than [he] prepared” to make it up to fans.

Riding the momentum from his Chuno, writer Chun Sung Il is bringing his big screen hit Level 7 Civil Servant to TV. The action comedy-drama hasn’t been cast yet, but the new spy comedy only adds to the already high number of espionage-tinged Kdramas hitting the airwaves over the next few months–call it the IRIS effect.

Scant details are available, but wire reports are stating that Birth of the Rich star Lee Si Young received emergency treatment for a drug overdose earlier today.

Han Ji Hye has just released a book of autobiographical essays titled My Fair Lady. In it she reflects on her career as an actress, her hobbies (including shoe designing and furniture making), and life as a single woman in her twenties.

Finally, do you think this is harsh? Miryo, from Kpoppers Brown Eyed Girls, went to vote and decided to snap a photo of herself holding voting cards to encourage her fans to do their part. The problem is that taking photos in a voting booth is illegal–lucky for Miryo she hadn’t filled out the cards yet, or she could have faced 2 years in the slammer! The reasoning is that seeing how celebrities vote could influence elections, but it seems unnecessary to me. Huh, looks like the U.S. has the same law

Chuno’s Oh Ji-ho has been selected as Ha Ji-won’s co-star in the upcoming 3D sci-fi action flick Sector 7.

The story takes place out in the open sea on a large oil prospecting ship, where the characters encounter a monster in the sea. When it attacks, a battle for survival ensues, led by Ha Ji-won, who shows off high-energy action skills as she fights it.
