
Bae Doo Na
Kim Young Hyun and Park Sang Yeon, the writing team who most recently brought Queen Seon Duk to TV screens, will reunite to adapt the 2006 best-selling novel A Tree With Deep Roots. Tree is set during the prosperous reign of King Sejong, who famously invented the modern Korean alphabet, and involves the murders of a group of scholars protected by the King. We’ll have to wait until next year to see what is expected to be a lavish production, although casting begins next month.
Lee Da Hae reflects on the ups and downs of shooting her hit Chuno in a new interview. Remember the fuss over her cleavage, and then the bigger fuss when editors blurred it out? She still thinks it was all much ado about nothing. In hindsight, she’s also able to brush off criticism of her physical appearance and perhaps historically incongruous wardrobe choices. What’s next? Lee’s looking forward to taking a break, and then she seems set on acting in Hollywood.
Jewel in the Palace’s Lee Young Ae was spotted at a basketball game with what fans are assuming is her husband. Oddly, the first photos cover her man’s face in mosaic, but the last pic gives a good shot of the man in her life.

Bae Doo Na opens up on her approach to the surreal drama Air Doll in a new interview. She says that the role of an inflatable doll come to life was unusually challenging–not only because of the nudity involved and the bizarre nature of the plot, but also because she had to “empty” herself every day in preparation for the role as a completely innocent being. The film opened last week in Korea after a strong run in Japan. In describing his latest drama, director Hirokazu Kore-eda said, “Inflatable dolls exist only when inflated by others. And our relationships are pretty much the same. We only exist when we relate to others.”
