Oguri Shun

Multitalented actor/director Oguri Shun will take on the challenging, iconic role of A Clockwork Orange’s vicious antihero Alex starting next January. The classic ultraviolent film directed by Stanley Kubrick was based on Anthony Burgess‘ novel, who also wrote this stage adaptation. This will also mark the first time that Oguri has sung on stage, in a production studded with “video scenes and music.”

You have to see this: the new trailer for My Girlfriend is a Gumiho reveals the comic, fanciful tone of the Hong Sisters‘ latest. Starring Lee Seung Gi and Shin Mina, the show so far looks like a lot of fun. Girlfriend lands on August 11th.

The year of the Gumiho already began for Tale of the Fox’s Child, which takes a more traditional, horror-themed view of the mythical creature. New pics from behind the scenes of the creepy drama show the cast giving their best zombie glares.

Yoon Eun Hye models the 2010 Fall line from fashion house Joinus. The shoot features Yoon wandering around an elegant mansion, and then… donning leather gloves and a whip?

A couple of new stills from the keenly anticipated, possibly campy rock drama I Am Legend show Kim Jung Eun (playing a well-kept Real Housewives type with a rebellious streak) in lockdown. Her character lands in jail after a bar brawl, all the while wearing haute couture of course.

Finally, a charity basketball game between Show Luo and Jay Chou almost ended in tears when Jay got smacked in the face with the ball. Still, both Show and Jay were able to make 7 baskets each, raising about $35,000 US for Yao Ming’s Yao Foundation.

Kim Jung Eun

A new set of pics from the upcoming ladies-who-rock drama I Am Legend were released, and the show looks like a blast. All four main actresses–Kim Jung Eun, Juni, Jang Shin Young and Hong Ji Min–will be playing their own instruments on the series, so expect to see some real musical talent on display when Legend premiers next month.

Sparks are flying behind the scenes of the historical drama Kim So Roo between the production company making the show and scriptwriter Kim Mi Sook II. Unhappy with ratings for the drama, the production company abruptly cancelled Kim’s contract, along with that of another writer. Commentators say that conflicts like this result from fickle producers overbidding on popular writers, then tossing them out when the show doesn’t live up to expectations.

Show Luo expressed jealousy that local host Lee Teng had turned out an outlet for Show’s fashion line Stage even bigger and better than his own. Check out pics from the opening here.

Earlier we linked to reports that Jang Hyuk was on board the new drama Secret Garden, and here’s more casting news on the series: Jay Park will reportedly make his Kdrama debut in the fantasy drama that alternates between virtual reality and real reality.

Kim Hye Soo laid out her love life for fans in a recent announcement: she doesn’t believe in celibacy, and she’s not getting married! She’ll also take on a new role as host of the news show W starting July 16th.

Finally, Lee Hyori may be dealing with plagiarism problems, but at least they can never take away her crown as beef queen.

So Ji Sub

The cast of Gumiho: Tale of the Fox Child held a press conference to introduce the new series, and the spotlight was on child stars Kim Yoo Jung and Seo Shin Ae. Kim plays the title monster’s daughter and you may remember her from Iljimae and Dong Yi, and Seo stars as a prickly noblewoman’s daughter. She’s been in Thank You and High Kick Through the Roof. Han Eun Jung plays the Gumiho, a role she describes as “every actress’s fantasy.” Tale of the Fox Child premiers on Monday.

Although local police have declared Park Yong Ha’s tragic suicide Wednesday an impulsive act unrelated to financial or emotional problems, Ryoo Si Won has come out publicly with another story: he claims that Park was plagued by the “betrayal” of his friend and long-time manager.

So Ji Sub says that he doesn’t think he’ll ever be able to work on another drama quite like Road No. 1, or play a character with as much substance. He even says that he doesn’t mind the drama’s unimpressive ratings in the first two episodes (the World Cup has been poaching viewers from everything else, except perhaps for the counter-programmed Baker King Kim Tak Gu) because there is much more–and better–to come. The World Cup is also wreaking havoc on ratings of the much-rescheduled Bad Guy and Coffee House.

Han Hyo Joo appreciates her fans! The actress snapped pics of all the unguents and ointments fans have been sending her, worried about her health. See the cute photo collection here.

Lee Min Ho, who had an impostor tweeting in his name last year, now has his own official twitter account: subscribe to actorleeminho to get up-to-the-minute updates of Lee’s thoughts, such as his very first tweet: “I want to ride a bike.”

Bagmaker Manhattan Portage has its first Chinese, Mandarin-speaking spokesperson, and it’s… Show Luo! Check out his new spots sporting the famous messenger bags right here.

And finally, an unusual bit of eye candy for you: a collection of amazingly complex and beautiful hairdos from recent historical Kdramas and films.

Whoa! IRIS just went on the air late last month in Japan, in the unprecedented (for a foreign drama) primetime spot, but it’s been suddenly yanked off in the face of copyright infringement claims by a Japanese company called Ainsuemuandoemu. The company claims to have created the drama in 2005. Hopefully for Japanese fans, the matter will be solved quickly so that the drama can continue airing. More about the details of the case, and past plagiarism claims against IRIS, are here.

Drama on the set of Bayside Shakedown 3, the Japanese summer blockbuster that was to introduce a new character played by Oguri Shun: evidently at co-star Oda Yuji’s insistence, Shun’s role has been swapped with that of Ito Atsushi. It seems that Oda felt Oguri was too fresh and clean looking to play his nephew in the detective film and pushed hard for Ito to take over the role.

Uee

Uee, from Kpop girl group After School and the popular romance You’re Beautiful, is set to star in the upcoming sports drama Birdie Buddy. In a radical image change, she’ll play a simple mountain girl whose life is transformed when she picks up an 8 iron and discovers her love of golf.

Yoon Eun Hye headed down to the docks for this cinematic new photo shoot for the Spring collection from Joinus.

Kim Bum has said that he disconnected his internet connection after reading criticism of his acting in The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry, but he might want to reconnect–evidently the drama’s been getting some positive buzz for the cute relationship between Kim and Choi Chul Ho (Queen of Housewives). Kim plays Choi’s former student who becomes the older man’s teacher in the art of seduction.

A new pair of interviews with the men of Chuno has been released! First, Jang Hyuk talked about what drew him to his slave-catcher role, how he maintains his bodacious bod and how he helped shape the look of his character–you can read it all here.
