Happy New Year everyone! The year in Korean drama ended with a bang as always, with the three major networks each holding their gala Drama Awards.

On MBC, awards night was all about the Queens. MBC had a very good year with the hit Queen Seon Duk, which dominated the evening by winning the Daesang (Grand Prize), Drama of the Year, Excellence Awards in acting for Lee Yo Won, Uhm Tae Woong and Kim Nam Gil, and Best Couple (Kim and Lee), among many other honors. Yoo Seung Ho and Lee Seung Hyo also won Newcomer Awards for their work on Queen Seon Duk. Many of Seon Duk’s awards however were shared with another regal drama, the feel-good hit Queen of Housewives. Housewives cleaned up with Excellence Awards for Kim Nam Joo and Yoon Sang Hyun.

Over at KBS, IRIS and Lee Byung Heon took top honors. The action hit also scored Excellence in Acting awards for Kim Seung Woo, Jung Jun Ho and Kim Tae Hee. Lee Min Ho and Kim So Eun each won Newcomer awards for fan favorite Boys Over Flowers, and you can check the complete list of awards winners right here.

At SBS, the big winner of the night was Wife’s Temptation, which not only won Daesang, but also Best Actor and Actress awards for Byun Woo Min and Kim Seo Hyung. Other dramas that gathered multiple awards for acting at SBS were Cain & Abel, Brilliant Legacy, and City Hall.

After Queen Seon Duk’s massive win at the MBC awards, star Ko Hyun Jung has announced her next role, and it’s another intriguing and powerful female character: Korea’s first woman president!

Lee Dae Hae will appear January 2nd on the variety show Happy Together to promote her upcoming gender-switch historical drama Chuno. During taping, she reportedly performed an “almost perfect butt dance.” Almost?

Kim Hyun Jung is tops in Japan, at least according to the magazine Enolife, which ranked Hallyu stars’ popularity. Check out the complete rundown here.

housewife_newsToday we uploaded Queen of Housewives, Kim Nam Joo’s return to the screen after an eight-year hiatus. It is a breezy tale of rich wives and their powerful husbands fighting over love, money, and social politics. A bit Desperate Housewives, a bit Gossip Girl, and a whole lot of fun, it pulled in ratings of over 20% from early on, peaking in ratings of over 30% at the end.

Chun Ji Ae (Kim Nam Joo) has it all…in high school. Pretty and popular, she’s the school’s queen bee, while Yang Bong Soon (Lee Hye Young) is the exact opposite, constantly picked on and made fun of. Bong Soon adores Ji Ae and the two are initially friends, until Ji Ae steals Bong Soon’s crush, Han Joon Hyuk (Choi Chul Ho). Fast-forward to middle-aged married life, and their roles have reversed.

Ji-Ae married Ohn Dal Soo (Oh Ji Ho), a promising university graduate who turned out to be too nice to rise in the corporate ranks and is now constantly unemployed, while Bong Soon married Joon Hyuk after Ji Ae dumped him, who has now risen rapidly through the ranks to become a senior executive in the high-powered Queens Food company. Dal Soo finally has a shot at a decent job through an interview with a major company, and Ji Ae, who’s tired of living the poor middle-class life, decides to support him with everything she’s got by entering the company’s cutthroat social wives club and winning them over.

Unfortunately for her, the company happens to be Queens Food, and not only is Bong Soon the secondary queen bee in the club, but her husband Joon Hyuk will be Dal Soo’s boss. Jooh Hyuk, however, has never quite recovered from losing Ji Ae, and when Ji Ae proves to have quite the talent for navigating the company’s treacherous social waters while the wife of the company’s boss sets her sights on Dal Soo, everyone is about to find out that you can’t always have your way…

This bubbly, delightful romcom is perfect escapist candy, and never misplaces its emotional heart in the midst of all the catfights and extramarital affairs.

fireworks_wpToday we uploaded all 17 episodes of  Fireworks, a warm-hearted and highly entertaining romantic drama about the (mis)adventures of four young people. Han Chae Young, star of 2005 uber-hit Delightful Girl Choon-Hyang and most recently seen as Ji-hoo’s icily beautiful first love in Boys Before Flowers (also available on DramaFever), brings a quirky charm to her role as Shin Na Ra, a 30-year old unemployed woman who just can’t seem to catch a break.

On the eve of their 7th anniversary, Na Ra’s boyfriend returns from a business trip and proposes to her, but halfway through their romantic evening he confesses that he has cheated with another woman and that he’s no longer sure that he loves her. Furious, Na Ra breaks up with him and goes out and gets wildly drunk. When she drops her engagement ring in a glass of soju, In Jae, the coach of a boys’ soccer team, accidentally swallows it, and their lives collide in a less than amicable way. Soon after, Na Ra goes in search of revenge taking a job at the company of her ex-boyfriend’s new woman in an effort to make things as uncomfortable for him as possible.

What she doesn’t realize, however, is that In Jae’s mother is a senior executive of the company, and that In Jae and her rival in love, Mi Rae (Park Eun-Hye) are old friends. When In Jae’s mother forces him to come work for the company, he and Na Ra are put on the same team, and sparks of a different kind than anger begin to fly. But In Jae also has feelings for Mi Rae, and soon, the four people – Na Ra, In Jae, Na Ra’s ex and Mi Rae – find themselves entangled in a love quadrangle. In this witty romantic drama, revenge is a dish best served warm and romantic fireworks are going off everywhere you look. Enjoy!
